Which positions will MetLife be hiring for in Charlotte?

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV)- After the initial good news, there were some sour grapes in Charlotte when we learned that MetLife's highest paid positions are actually going to our northern neighbors.

MetLife execs have said that when it comes to six-figure salaries, there's a bigger pool of people in the Raleigh area qualified to receive them.

But MetLife candidate Barry Higgins says that's not necessarily a bad thing for all those in Charlotte who've had trouble finding work since the recession.

"They have a lot of entry-level positions," Higgins says. "I think that will actually help us out tremendously in the job market right now."

We caught up with Higgins directly after his interview with MetLife today at the company's temporary space in Southpark, and he thinks MetLife may be a great fit for workers looking for a chance to start over - MetLife told him they would provide training for all their new hires.

ACC announces schedule for 2013 Belk Bowl

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV)- The Atlantic Coast Conference has announced the dates, networks and game times for its 2013 Football Bowl Games, including Charlotte's Belk Bowl.

The Belk Bowl will have the fourth selection of an ACC team after the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) and will be played this year on December 28 at 3:20 p.m.

The game, which is being held on a Saturday this year, will be televised by ESPN.

The game will feature an opponent from the American Athletic Conference.

This is where some of you may say... who?

The American Athletic Conference is the new name for the former Big East Conference. The conference announced the decision last month after university presidents approved the new name.

Grab a partner for a better workout, experts say

Grab a partner for a better workout, experts say

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV)- When the alarm goes off at 6 a.m., getting out of bed and heading to the gym may seem like an impossible task.

Good news!

Recent studies have found that exercising with a small group boosts motivation and it's more fun than doing it alone.

"The whole accountability piece of the pie really helps," says Barb Christie.

We all know the benefits of exercise both body and mind.

Everydayhealth.com says group exercise often leads to better results, especially if you are trying to accomplish a goal.

"The biggest benefit to group training is the comradery and how people can push to achieve more," says Rick Anderson the owner of www.fitnesstogethercharlotte.com

Your buddies or trainer also can help motivate you on those days when you really don't feel like exercising.

Wells Fargo Championship from a marshal's view

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV)- Round Two of the Wells Fargo Championship is underway at Quail Hollow Club in south Charlotte, and as usual for Friday, the crowds are big.

The tournament is a huge undertaking for an army of staff and volunteers, responsible for everything from keeping golf carts charged to making sure fans are quiet when the golfers take a putt.

"It's a fun job. It get's taxing, it gets long, it gets arduous sometimes," said Neal Wilkinson of Salisbury.  For nine years, Wilkinson has been working the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow Club.

It started simply enough, he filled out an application online, and they took him. And while getting the job may have been easy, the work itself is anything but.

"Fortunately I've never had to call for the police," Wilkinson joked.

On the course Wilkinson manages a dozen or so volunteers who work the course and the corporate suites.
