CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Saturday was an exciting morning for 36 local girls in South Park. They met at Maggiano's for their graduation from Girl Talk.
The Girl Talk program teaches girls ages 11-16 character-building and leadership development skills. For 11 weeks, the girls met on Saturdays to learn about self-esteem, bullying, healthy relationships, conflict resolution and managing money.
Through the program, the girls were also able to tour colleges around the state. Their parents were part of some of the activities as well, to make sure the education is an ongoing process.
WBTV's Molly Grantham emceed Saturday's graduation ceremony, and watched as the girls celebrated with big smiles.
Nearly 300 girls have graduated since the Girl Talk program started five years ago.
